Rhode Island Civil Rights Attorneys

We fight to protect your constitutional rights

At the law firm of Strauss, Factor, Laing & Lyons, we believe that civil rights belong to everyone. All U.S. Citizens, regardless of belief, color, or social status, have a right to be treated equally under the law. In addition, our firm has been a fixture in Providence, Rhode Island, for over 60 years. Representing Providence residents who might not otherwise have a lawyer is our way of giving back to the community that has been so generous to us. If you would like to know more about our pro bono work, contact Strauss, Factor, Laing & Lyons for a consultation.

The American Civil Liberties Union

The ACLU is a national organization dedicated to preserving the rights of free speech, equal protection, due process, and privacy. We handle cases on behalf of the Rhode Island affiliate of the ACLU that involve some or all of the above. Most of the work we do centers on the due process rights for a particular group. For example, when the government attempted to deprive certain food stamp recipients of food stamps because of alleged fraud, there were no hearings to determine the facts. We represented the victims of this rights violation. As a result, most of them had their food stamps returned to them.

We handle cases in which people have been denied due process or received inadequate notice before a privilege or right was taken away from them. One case we recently resolved involved a group of citizens who brought claims against the DMV for unfair revocation of their driver's licenses.
